Social media integration
What do the social channels mean to your company?
Social media is a current 'digital hot potato'. The phrase is thrown around boardrooms all the time without anyone really examining what it is,
and what it does for you. Rather than just senselessly ticking the 'social media' project check box why not examine the social media landscape
and see what each of the platforms actually means to your company.
Avoid spending valuable resources on misdirected or non beneficial engagement with people on platforms that you don't properly understand,
or, if you are honest, are not really connecting with.
How can you benefit from social movement?
Look very carefully at each social platform and try to discover what it does well and why. Each platform has very distinct functionality,
target markets and strengths. Some lend themselves to crowd sourcing, where others are far more conversational. It is important you
know these strengths before diving into working within them.
Talk often, be prepared
Social media will give people a direct route to talk to your company. This is a new and unique situation for many companies and they are often
surprised by the content people put to them over social channels. People can and will say anything to you online and encouraging them to do so
means you now have a responsibility to deal with them on some level.
This is important as creating and mismanaging a social channel can cause serious harm to your brand or product. If you encourage
people to talk to you, you have to talk back, and often.
